You are busy, right?

Everything is scheduled. In fact, you probably have more items on your to-do list than you have time to complete. When you don’t have time, notice what gets left behind. You do. There is no time for you.

Let alone time to focus on losing weight!

Losing weight takes making time for yourself. Trying to lose weight while burning the candle at both ends just doesn’t work.

This is why it is so important to talk about how to create time for you. This is something I have personally been working on. If you listened to episode 155 you might recall that I stopped creating time for myself and it landed me in a place of burnout.

Like most physicians, you probably prioritize everyone else’s needs above yours. And that’s okay… that’s how you were taught that it should be.

But, is that what you actually want for yourself? Or, do you want to continue to care for your family & patients, while also finding time to do things for yourself? Your time and life is limited. Why not live it the way you really want to? Now.

If weight and health are a goal that you aren’t meeting right now, think about how you can create time to do it in a kind way that makes your life better. And when you do this, there will be ripple effects from this. As you start to lose weight and the eating feels stable, you will find that all of the other areas of your life improve.

Time is a common topic we work on inside my physician-only program, Stress Eating SOS.  Many members worried that they didn’t have time to do a coaching program, and yet with the coaching, they actually have more time.  Which means they not only have lost weight, but other things have improve. Their relationship with their spouse has improved. Their time with their kids is more enjoyable. They are happier.

How can you do this too? All you need is to learn new tools to learn how to create space so that you have the time and ability to lose weight in a way that is kind to yourself. This is what I teach you in Stress Eating SOS.

Time is a funny concept. Have you ever arrived for a clinic day, checked the schedule and thought to yourself that it’s going to be an easy day and you might even be done early? And then suddenly you haven’t had a second to catch up on any of that paperwork, you’ve been so busy, and you’re working late again. Why does this happen?

Parkinson’s law states that the work will expand to fill the space that you have. So the work in a light day expands to fill the day.

Busier days mean the work contracts to be done in the shorter period of time available.

If you put that concept into play when thinking about taking time for yourself, it can be helpful. You might be stuck thinking that if you take time for yourself, you are taking time away from someone else, remember that the work will fill the space that is available. So, when you take time for yourself the work still gets done. You are just creating a smaller space for the work to take place in.

Here are a few of my favorite Time Saving Tips for Weight Loss

  1. Let it be easy. What if eating healthy wasn’t hard?
  2. Choose methods that actually create more time. Yes, there are ways of approaching weight loss that create more time in your life. One of those ways is through coaching.
  3. Plan the time needed first. Schedule in the time for you to do the things you want to do. If you want to fit a walk into your day, remember to plan that time first and trust that the rest will still get done.
  4. Watch your time related thoughts. Choose thoughts that make you feel empowered with the time you have.
