How many times have you felt like you are failing at weight loss?
We’ve all been there. But, what if the belief that you are failing is actually creating the failure? The concept of failure and comparison is holding you back.
But, no matter what it looks like, you’re doing it right. Because you’re here. You’re listening to the podcast and reading the blog. You are looking for a new way to approach your weight loss.
The thought about failing and the concept that you even could fail holds you back. Where you tell your brain to focus, it focuses. It goes to work showing you things that support your original thinking.
Have you ever been shopping for a new car, one that you have never really noticed before, but now that you’ve picked it out you see the same one everywhere? This is the reticular activating system in your brain identifying that vehicle as something important and so bringing it to your attention.
And you can use this to your advantage in your weight loss. But, if your brain thinks that failing is the most important thing in your weight loss, then it will show you mistakes and failures instead of successes.
We talk a lot about this idea of “failure” in the Stress Eating SOS program and how you can change your beliefs and shift your thoughts to help you in your weight loss instead of holding you back.
Failure is not possible. The only thing you need to do to not fail is to keep showing up. Keep trying. Keep figuring it out.
If you continue to think things like “why do I keep doing this?” and “I’m never going to be able to lose weight” and “I can’t keep weight off” then your reticular activating system will go to work proving this to you.
What if you started saying to yourself “I am figuring this out”? How would that change your perspective on your weight loss?
Switching your thoughts slightly creates change. It creates an opportunity in your mind to notice things that are actually going to help you move. It creates the urge and desire to find ways to figure it out, and it helps you find solutions rather than focusing on the problems.
Your beliefs create your life. Your reality.
But, just because a belief exists, even if it’s been there your whole life, doesn’t mean you need to keep it.
We have default beliefs and they are not always serving you. You have to look at all of these beliefs, find the ones that work for you and choose which ones are not serving you that you can get rid of.
Listen to the full episode to learn how the ideas of failure and comparison are holding you back, and how you can break free of those beliefs and move forward.
