Ever go from seeing a treat to eating it with lightning speed – without a second to think?  Or not even notice you’re eating until the chip bag is empty?

How the heck are you supposed to stop eating when you don’t even know that you are doing it?

(BTW – If you do this, you are definitely not alone! It’s a really common issue for physicians)

Which is why I put together this week’s podcast episode on how to get a handle on mindless eating without relying on willpower.

Willpower is never that great of a strategy – and in this type of eating it really doesn’t work because you don’t have time to activate it.

There are a few reasons why mindless eating happens and how you manage it depends on what your drivers are.  Understand that and you can stop it a lot easier.

Which drivers do you think describe you more?

👉 Being distracted with multitasking so you don’t even notice when you reach for food

👉 Simply being disconnected from you body and not knowing if you are hungry or not

👉 Feeling like you shouldn’t be eating the food (but you really want it) so you try to get it in quickly before you stop yourself

👉 There’s other stresses going on and the food helps you feel better (even if it is brief)

Want to know the answers to these challenges?  Listen to this week’s Thriving As A Physician Podcast episode below.

Above all, remember: Your eating habits aren’t the enemy. But if they’re getting in the way of your health goals, change is totally within your reach.

Here’s the key – approach any change with a heap of kindness towards yourself. It truly works better than all that tough love you’ve tried in the past. ♥️
