The holidays look a little different this year, but as always, they still can trigger a lot of eating and a losing focus on your goals. On this week’s episode, I’m going to show you how to navigate the holiday season during these unprecedented times while still enjoying yourself.
The normal things that trip us up like socialization and the celebration mindset aren’t necessarily going to be there for everyone, but stress can still manifest from many sources holiday season.
Make a plan. That’s the most important piece of advice I can provide. Look at what is truly special and what is not, and plan what you are going to eat when confronted with either scenario. Make sure to give yourself options. With fewer events and the stress of isolation and uncertainty, the temptation to eat out of boredom is going to be there.
Along with different stresses, there will be traditions that need to be put on hold this year. With that comes the potential for grief. Remember to still recognize their meaning, but be selective in which foods you indulge in.
Be in the moment this season and take care of yourself. Schedule in that self-care if you need to. Prepare for the ups and downs and recognize that you will have negative emotions. We are all human – imperfection is okay! One choice is only one choice out of many.
