How many times have you felt like your body has failed you? 

As physicians, we are humans in human bodies and are prone to developing medical illness or chronic conditions just like anyone else. 

In this week’s episode of the podcast, I am joined by Sunny Smith, MD and Sara Dill, MD to talk about managing your own illnesses, pain and medical conditions as a Physician. Each of these guests coaches physicians and has their own illness experience to share.

Sunny Smith is the Founder and CEO of Empowering Women Physicians, and is also a Clinical Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health at the UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Smith advocates for physician wellness through her comprehensive and collaborative coaching program, podcast, retreats and facebook group that seek to change the culture of medicine through normalizing and humanizing the experience of being a physician. She has been featured in multiple documentaries on medical student and physician wellness including Do No Harm which is currently streaming on Amazon.

Dr. Sara Dill is also joining me on the podcast this week. Sara is a board certified dermatologist and pediatric dermatologist in private practice in Santa Barbara, CA. She coaches physicians as a certified life and weight loss coach through the Life Coach School and is a qualified teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). She has also trained with Martha Beck and Byron Katie and incorporates a wide variety of coaching styles, positive psychology, mindfulness, and personal development tools. In spite of having degrees from Harvard and Brown, it was not until she discovered coaching that Sara understood how to stop worrying about making mistakes or not knowing enough, and learned how to feel confident and in control. In her coaching practice with physicians, Sara specializes in work-life balance, stress reduction, and how to enjoy work and life more, even in these interesting times.
