Is low carb the full answer?
So you have heard about eating low carb and what an amazing solution it is for weight. You have seen people online losing tons of weight or maybe have friends who have been really successful. And you believe that it is a good choice for your self. Simple right? Not always!
What if you just can’t get yourself to start? Or what if you start but keeping falling back to old habits and aren’t seeing the results you want?
If this is you, I can reassure you that you are not alone.
Not for everyone!
I really believe in lower carb approaches for weight loss. I think there are a lot of benefits such as a more stable appetite and improved metabolic health. Once it becomes a habit, it is fairly easy to maintain.
However, assuming any diet or way of eating is the full answer is over-simplifying weight issues. Don’t get me wrong, what you eat matters. It matters a lot. But there can be so many factors between what you decide to eat and what you ultimately eat.
The overeating and eating off our plan that we do is not about the food. It is a symptom of other factors at play. These factors drive up our desire for food and create the situations where we overeat.
This week’s podcast episode is about what factors might be influencing your eating behaviour.
Surprise! Your thoughts are probably part of the issue.
Our thoughts about food and eating matter so much. This is a theme we will keep talking about over and over. Thoughts can come in the form of being permissive (“Its ok, you deserve this cake”), or negative (“What’s the point? I blew it already!”) or sound like factual beliefs (“I can never control myself around chips”). What do all of these have in common? They are all your primitive brain working on getting access to foods that are energy dense and release dopamine and they all result in overeating if they are recognized.
Other issues that may be contributing to starting or staying on your plan are things like emotional eating (also driven by thoughts by the way ), and keeping yourself and your health on your priority list.
Listen to the episode below for all my tips on finding and fixing the factors that might be making it hard for you to get going or keep going on your weight loss plans.
You don’t have to do this alone!
