I really thought there was something wrong with me.  And I was petrified that other people would find out.

After all, I was a family doctor.  I talked to patients about eating healthy all day long.  But I couldn’t stop myself from heading into the drive through at the end of my office.

To be honest, I felt like a total fraud.  Especially after I was doing Obesity Medicine and I still couldn’t get a handle on my eating.

Words can’t describe how exhausting this was.  I put more energy into trying to stop eating shit than I did getting through med school.

(and I’m only partly kidding about that 😆)

Here’s my point – I was completely wrong.

There was nothing wrong with me.  I was not broken.  I wasn’t a fraud.  I was just an exhausted and overwhelmed doctor who had never been taught how to look after her own health.

Nothing is wrong with you.  You are not broken.  You are not a fraud when you help patients with their eating and weight but struggle with your own.  In fact, the empathy you have from your personal experience is one of the most powerful tools you bring to helping your patients.

Now I know that there are really good reasons why we struggle with food as physicians.  It makes sense.

This week on the Thriving As A Physician podcast, I am sharing the top 5 reasons why physicians struggle with food.

When you understand these underlying reasons, it’ll be easier to change your eating.

Want a magic wand experience to make eating healthy feel way better? Then stop focussing on trying not to eat and put your energy into the 5 tips in this episode.  You’ll thank yourself later.
